After Effects Demo Reel

As a graphic designer, it is important to think through numerous different formats for a given project, whether it be logo design or full brand identity. For my capstone project I chose to challenge myself by adapting previous projects to see how animation can push it to the next level. My demo reel is a culmination of several projects that have taken on a life of their own through the application of animation to add even more dynamism to my work.

Cy Twombly Artist Catalogue

The artist catalogue of Cy Twombly’s work includes high definition scans of his art and essays written by art historians discussing the impact his work has had on the wider art world. Twombly’s artistic style makes use of gestural linework and a mixed media approach, using paints, pencils, crayons and other mark-making tools. To emulate his style I made marks of my own with pencils and oil crayons, scanned them to create digital versions of each mark and placed them alongside Twombly’s works, allowing every page to maintain a similar visual feel to the works presented on them.

Spice of the Month Club

Spice of the Month Club is a monthly subscription box filled with hot sauces, spices, and other spicy goodies shipped right to your door. The recyclable box is bound with a slide cover and all contents are held in place using cut paper and tension. I used a combination of botanical imagery, organic ingredients, and a modern twist to make the brand appealing to contemporary consumers.

Pete's Homemade Bagels

For Pete’s Homemade Bagels I wanted to explore packaging in regards to how takeout packaging functions vs. how it’s designed. Instead of throwing it away, could it be used or left out for decorative purposes? The package itself is designed around having an authentic, personal, and hand-baked feel to tie the design into the product’s “Homemade” theme. To push this theme even further I constructed the package to appear more house shaped, making the package appear like the very home it could have been baked in. Much of my process was experimenting with ways to explore how to create a foldable package that would have a unique shape, as well as how the pictorial elements would interact with that shape.
