Dorothea Lange
Dorothea Lange is an American black and white photographer who believed that “photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.” Some of Dorothea’s most famous photographs were candid portraits of displaced farmers during the Great Depression. The way she captures these moments demonstrates the physical setting, emotion, and striking nature of the world during this time period. This artist’s catalogue is meant to display some of Dorothea’s most famous pieces and her stories behind them. The choice to use red as a primary color was to add even more drama to her style. Because Dorothea’s style was very organic, the choice to use elements, like torn paper edges, was made to emphasize that distinctive technique.
